Stumpy-Spined Cuttlefish Video Stock Footage

In the wild there are many different variables that can influence populations with their size, distribution, and abundance. Cuttlefish in the wild have to deal with environmental changes, seawater temperature, and availability of prey species. Due to the fact the life of a cuttlefish is short, the challenges that arise in the sea can greatly affect the current population and future populations. Since cuttlefish life cycles are so short, they need to have annual births in order to sustain their populations. This is one of the reasons why they mate readily around five months, because they need to give birth to new organisms before reaching senescence. Not only do the annual births need to occur for to sustain the cuttlefish, but also for other organisms. Though it may not be a positive aspect of their lives, cuttlefish do serve as food for cetaceans, seabirds, crustaceans, as well as demersal and pelagic fish. Without a healthy and functioning environment in the sea, the cuttlefish have no way to live abundantly and be able to support future generations. Learn more about Stumpy-Spined Cuttlefish
