Jonathan Bird Productions is pleased to announced that the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Boston/New England Chapter, has honored the series Jonathan Bird’s Blue World with four 2012 Boston/New England Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children/Youth Program, Outstanding Musical Composition/Arrangement, Outstanding Editor-Program, and Outstanding Magazine Feature/Segment. The 2012 awards were announced and presented at ceremonies Saturday evening, June 2, 2012 at the Copley Marriott Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. This is the third consecutive year that Jonathan Bird’s Blue World has been awarded Emmys.
Jonathan Bird’s Blue World takes viewers on an adventurous exploration of the world’s oceans in a series the whole family will enjoy. Filmed across the globe, each episode brings viewers to the edge of their seats. In Season Three, viewers followed the touch-and-go rescue of Sully, a Pilot Whale found stranded on a beach in Curacao, nursed back to health, and brought to Sea World in San Diego when rescuers learned he suffered from a defect that made it difficult for him to feed.
Also in Season Three, viewers followed the adventures of Jake Whitlock, a thirteen-year-old boy and fan of Jonathan Bird’s Blue World who came to our attention because of a writing assignment. We surprised Jake with diving lessons, and then surprised him again with a trip to the Cayman Islands where Jake was officially certified, and began his diving adventures on a coral reef, a sunken ship, and with Manta Rays. In addition, Season Three featured segments on magical blue holes in the Bahamas, dolphins in Curacao, the amazing Goliath Grouper, a sinkhole in the Yucatan, and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, among other things.
Jonathan Bird’s Blue World has aired continuously on public television stations in the United States since May 2008. Co-produced by Jonathan Bird Productions and Oceanic Research Group, the series has been shown over 13,000 times in 38 states to over 74% of the USA. Season 4 of the series is scheduled for release in 2013.
Host Jonathan Bird, is an underwater cinematographer, underwater photographer, producer, author of seven books and public speaker. He is the president of Jonathan Bird Productions and a founder of the non-profit organization Oceanic Research Group. He has produced films for National Geographic, PBS, ABC, USA Network and even the SciFi Channel.
On the web, and on DVD, Jonathan Bird’s Blue World has been shown to be a valuable and entertaining tool for science education. Teachers across the country incorporate Blue World into the classroom to illustrate science and oceanographic concepts. In 2012, with funding in part from the National Science Foundation, the blueworldTV.com website added science standard based lesson plans, activities and videos to help educators teach about sound, light, pH and other core science topics.
